TRANSPORTATION SALES TAX

Charleston County developed this Web site so citizens can
easily see how the Transportation (Half-Cent) Sales Tax
dollars are being spent.
The Transportation Sales Tax was approved by almost 60 percent of the voters in a county-wide referendum on November 2, 2004. It was implemented in Charleston County business establishments on May 1, 2005, and is expected to raise $1.3 billion for Charleston County over 25 years.
The name of the Web site goes along with Charleston County’s
new slogan for the tax initiative: “Small Change for Big
Change.” The slogan represents the progress that will be
made over the next twenty-five years of the half-cent tax
collection for roads, public transportation, and greenbelts.
