GREENBELT BANK BOARD

The Greenbelt Bank Board was established by Charleston County Council to address the loss of greenspace and promote balanced growth throughout the county. Through the acquisition of real property from willing sellers, the Greenbelt Bank will preserve wildlife habitats, outstanding natural areas, sites of unique ecological significance, historical sites, forestlands, farmlands, watersheds, openspace, and urban parklands. The Greenbelt Bank will also administer the Greenbelt Project’s Rural Grants Program as outlined in the Comprehensive Greenbelt Plan. The Greenbelt Bank Board consists of nine members appointed by Charleston County Council.

 

Meeting Schedule:

 

Greenbelt Bank Board meetings are held at 9:00 a.m. on the first Thursday of each month, and are open to the public. Meetings will take place at the Lonnie Hamilton, III Public Services Building (4045 Bridge View Drive, off Leeds Avenue in North Charleston).

URBAN GRANT REVIEW COMMITTEE

The Comprehensive Greenbelt Plan established the Urban Grant Review Committee to assist the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) in evaluating applications submitted to the Urban Grants Program.  The Urban Grant Review Committee is comprised of 2 Greenbelt Advisory Board Members, 2 CCPRC staff and 2 Charleston County staff.

 

Meeting Schedule:

 

Urban Grant Review Committee meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month and are open to the public.  Meetings take place at the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission Headquarters (861 Riverland Drive, next to the James Island County Park).

GREENBELT ADVISORY BOARD

The Greenbelt Advisory Board was established by Charleston County Council to make recommendations on sales tax expenditures for greenbelt projects. The initial role of the Board was to prepare and deliver recommendations and comments on the Comprehensive Greenbelt Plan, which was adopted by County Council on June 6, 2006. The Board will continue to garner public input while advocating for the implementation of the Greenbelt Plan. Additionally, the Greenbelt Advisory Board will evaluate the implementation of both the Rural Grants Program and the Urban Grants Program.  The Greenbelt Advisory Board consists of 14 members selected by Charleston County Council and the elected Councils of each of the three major municipalities in Charleston County (Charleston, Mount Pleasant and North Charleston).
