Transportation Advisory Board Seeks
Input on Proposed Comprehensive
Transportation Plan
Public meetings to be
held on February 28, March 1, and
March 2
On Wednesday, Feb. 15, Charleston
County’s RoadWise consultant
presented the proposed Comprehensive
Transportation Plan to the
Transportation Advisory Board (TAB).
The proposed Comprehensive
Transportation Plan creates a
framework for the $1.1 billion of
the $1.3 billion Transportation
(“Half-Cent”) Sales Tax funding to
be used for transportation projects
and improvements.
Now that the
proposed Comprehensive
Transportation Plan has been
presented to the TAB, the members
want to share the plan’s funding
recommendations with the public to
gather input and comments.
Community meetings will be held at
three different locations across the
county:
Tuesday, Feb. 28 – James
Island
Location:
James Island Middle School cafeteria
(1464 Camp Road)
Time: 6:30
p.m.
Wednesday, March 1 –
Mount Pleasant
Location:
Wando High School Cafeteria (1000
Warrior Way)
Time: 6:30
p.m.
Thursday, March 2 –
North Charleston
Location:
City of North Charleston Council
Chambers (4900 LaCross Road)
Time: 6:30
p.m.
Unlike the open house workshops held
in the fall, these community
meetings will include a formal
presentation at 6:30 p.m., and will
include an opportunity to provide
comments on the plan.
“The proposed Comprehensive
Transportation Plan
offers more than a laundry list of
projects,”
said John
Knott, TAB Chairman. “It
establishes a strategic direction
for annual and long-term capital
project spending over the next
twenty-five years. The community
meetings will provide the public a
chance to learn the details of the
plan and how it can work for them.”
The formal presentation of the
proposed Comprehensive
Transportation Plan will outline how
it:
-
Responds to priorities expressed by
community leaders and citizens in
attendance at the fall workshops.
-
Addresses ongoing network needs such
as drainage improvements, pavement
maintenance, and improved bicycle
and pedestrian access.
-
Maximizes the improvements listed as
a part of the $77 million bond
referendum approved by the voters in
2004.
-
Identifies leverage opportunities to
pay for high priority local
projects.
After receiving public feedback, the
TAB will develop their comments
about the proposed Comprehensive
Transportation Plan and policy
recommendations for its submittal to
Charleston County Council for final
action.

Transportation Plan on the
