Public Meeting on June 29 to Gather Input on Harborview Road Improvements

Citizen input important on an Initial Bonded Project funded by Transportation (“Half-Cent”) Sales Tax

Charleston County RoadWise will hold a public meeting on Thursday, June 29 to get input on road improvements along Harborview Road on James Island.

The meeting will be held from 7-9 p.m. at the James Island Recreation Center, 1088 Quail Drive, Charleston, South Carolina, 29412.

The road improvements may include a variety of potential alternatives including turn lanes, bike lanes, sidewalks, and improved signalization along Harborview Road from North Shore Drive (S-95) to Fort Johnson Road

The Harborview Road improvements will be funded by the Transportation (Half-Cent”) Tax, which was approved by Charleston County voters in 2004.

“The Charleston County RoadWise Program will continue its commitment to solicit input from the public in this and other upcoming projects. Our goal is to develop concepts that will advance opportunities to meet the needs of Charleston County’s traveling public now and in the future,” said Dan Moses, Pre-Construction Manager for Charleston County RoadWise.

In addition to the public meeting at the James Island Recreation Center regarding Harborview Road improvements, public meetings will be held on the following large road improvement projects:

-        Palmetto Commerce Parkway-Phase II

-        James Island Connector Loop to Folly Road

-        Highway 17/61 Connector Improvements

-        Glenn McConnell Parkway/Bees Ferry Road Intersection

The meeting dates for these projects have not yet been set, but will be determined during the design process.

The June 29 meeting will be the second of these series of meetings for large projects funded by the Transportation Sales Tax. Charleston County RoadWise held the first of these meetings on May 25 regarding Folly Road and Maybank Highway intersection improvements.
