Harbor View Road Public Meeting Moved to Harbor View Elementary School, June 29

The Harbor View Road public meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 29 at James Island Recreation Center has been moved to the cafeteria of Harbor View Elementary School. Harbor View Elementary School is located at 1576 Harbor View Road on James Island. The public meeting will still be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 29.

Charleston County RoadWise is holding the public meeting to get public input on road improvements along Harbor View Road on James Island.

The road improvements may include a variety of potential alternatives such as turn lanes, bike lanes, sidewalks and improved signalization along Harbor View Road from North Shore Drive (S-95) to Fort Johnson Road.

The Harbor View Road improvements will be funded by the Transportation (“Half-Cent”) Sales Tax, which was approved by Charleston County voters in 2004.

The June 29 meeting will be the second in a series of meetings for large projects funded by the Transportation Sales Tax. Charleston County RoadWise held the first of these meetings on May 25 regarding Folly Road and Maybank Highway intersection improvements.

In addition to the public meeting at the Harbor View Elementary School regarding Harbor View Road improvements, public meetings will be held on the following large road improvement projects:

-        Palmetto Commerce Parkway-Phase II

-        James Island Connector Loop to Folly Road

-        Highway 17/61 Connector Improvements

-        Glenn McConnell Parkway/Bees Ferry Road Intersection

The meeting dates for these projects have not yet been set, but will be determined during the design process.

Visit the official Charleston County Transportation (“Half-Cent”) Sales Tax Web site, www.smallchangeforbigchange.org, for public meeting notices and up-to-date news and information.
