Charleston County RoadWise Workshop:
Alternative Bonding and Contract Financing
for Disadvantaged Business Owners, Thursday,
July 27
Charleston County RoadWise is offering a
free workshop to disadvantaged business
owners who have had difficulty securing
bonding, financing or certification.
The workshop will be held on Thursday, July
27 from 12:30 - 3:00 p.m. at the Lonnie
Hamilton, III Public Services Building
located at 4045 Bridge View Drive, off Leeds
Avenue in North Charleston.
The workshop will introduce special programs
to help businesses that are considered “high
risk.” In addition, representatives from the
Small Business Development Center will be in
place to discuss business plans and
financial and net worth
statements. Representatives from the S.C.
Department of Transportation will also be
available to discuss and assist with
Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE)
Certification.

RoadWise is the program name adopted for the
highways and drainage component funded by
the Transportation (“Half-Cent”) Sales Tax
proceeds. Charleston County’s Transportation
Sales Tax was approved by voters in November
of 2004. Collection of the tax began in May
of 2005 and will continue for 25 years or
until $1.303 billion is generated for
transportation and greenspace related
projects and improvements.
