Public
Meeting for West Ashley Road Improvement Projects Funded by
Transportation “Half-Cent” Sales Tax
Meeting on July 27 from 7-9 p.m. at St. Andrews
Elementary School
Charleston
County RoadWise will hold a public meeting on Thursday, July
27 to get input on West Ashley road improvement projects
that will be funded by the Transportation (“Half-Cent”)
Sales Tax.
The
meeting will be held from 7-9 p.m. at St. Andrews Elementary
School in West Ashley (30 Chadwick Drive, Charleston, SC
29407).
The
purpose of the July 27 meeting is to gather public input on
road improvements for the intersection of US 17 and SC 61.
During the meeting, RoadWise staff will also take comments
on two smaller projects in the same vicinity as the larger
project:
1)
The
intersection of Fenwick and Wesley Drive
2)
A proposed
median extension on SC 61 at 5th Avenue
“The
Charleston County RoadWise Program will continue its
commitment to solicit input from the public for this and
other upcoming projects,” said Dan Moses, Pre-Construction
Manager for Charleston County RoadWise. “Our goal is to
develop concepts that will advance opportunities to meet the
needs of Charleston County’s traveling public now and in the
future.”
In
addition to the public meeting on US 17 / SC 61 road
improvements, Charleston County RoadWise will hold public
meetings on the following large road improvement projects:

Palmetto
Commerce Parkway-Phase II
-
Glenn
McConnell Parkway/Bees Ferry Road Intersection
The
meeting dates for these projects have not yet been set, but
will be determined during the design process.
The July
27 meeting on US 17 / SC 61 road improvements will be the
third of the series of meetings for large projects funded by
the Transportation Sales Tax. The other meetings that have
already occurred are:

Folly Road and Maybank Highway intersection improvements on
James Island

June 29:
Harbor View Road improvements on James Island
RoadWise
is the program name adopted for the highways and drainage
component funded by the Transportation (“Half-Cent”) Sales
Tax proceeds. Charleston County’s Transportation Sales Tax
was approved by voters in November of 2004. Collection of
the tax began in May of 2005 and will continue for 25 years
or until $1.303 billion is generated for transportation and
greenspace related projects and improvements.
