Public Meeting for
Palmetto Commerce Parkway - Phase II, Funded by Transportation "Half-Cent"
Sales Tax
Meeting on
Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 7-9 p.m. at the Golf Club at Wescott Plantation
Charleston County RoadWise
will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 10 to gather input on the
Palmetto Commerce Parkway - Phase II extension project that will be funded
by the Transportation Sales Tax.
The meeting will be held
from 7-9 p.m. at the Golf Club at Wescott Plantation, 5000 Wescott Club
Drive, North Charleston.
The purpose of the Oct. 10
meeting is to gather public input on Phase II of the project that will
further extend the parkway approximately 3.75 miles to connect to Ashley
Phosphate Road (S-75) at Spartan Boulevard. Residents who attend the Oct.
10 meeting will have an opportunity to respond to alternative road designs
that will be offered by Charleston County RoadWise Program engineers.
An initial extension of
1,500 feet to accommodate the Daimler Chrysler facility was completed in
July of 2006. Palmetto Commerce Parkway -- Phase II is an Initial Bond
project that was approved by Charleston County voters in a 2004 referendum,
and its primary purpose of is to provide a north-south connector linking
Ladson Road and Ashley Phosphate Road. In addition, the extension of
Palmetto Commerce Parkway will relieve parallel routes such as Dorchester
Road and I-26 and provide a better distribution of traffic in the area.
The next large road
improvement project meeting involving the public will be the Glenn McConnell
Parkway/Bees Ferry Road Intersection project. The meeting date for this
project will be announced in advance.
Other road project
meetings that have already been held are:
May 25: Folly
Road and Maybank Highway Intersection Improvements on James Island
June 29:
Harborview Road improvements on James Island
July 27: US
Highway 17-SC Highway 61 improvements, West Ashley
