Meeting on Nov. 14 for
Disadvantaged Business Enterprises and Prime Contractors to Share Skills and
Work Opportunities
Meeting on
Tuesday, Nov. 14, 6-8 p.m. at the Lonnie Hamilton III, Public Services
Building
Design firm staff and
primary contractors assigned to Transportation "Half-Cent" Sales Tax
projects will have the chance to exchange credentials and work opportunities
with potential Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) subcontractors on
Nov. 14 from 6-8 p.m. in the Council Committee
Room B-225, at the Lonnie Hamilton III, Public Services Building
located at 4045 Bridge View Drive, in North Charleston off Leeds Avenue.
"The objective of the
meeting is to help DBE's meet prime contractors so that DBE's can market
their businesses," said Margaret Rush, Charleston County RoadWise's Program
Coordinator for Disadvantaged Business Enterprises and On The Job Training.
Rush encourages DBE
representatives to bring business cards, brochures and other pertinent
information that will acquaint county contractors with DBE's, and their
qualifications for work associated with building roads and highways funded
by the Transportation Sales Tax.
"The DBE and primary
contractors meeting is important because it allows contractors to identify
qualified business people to perform a variety of duties whose skills may
have gone untapped until this time," Rush said.
The Transportation Sales
Tax was passed by Charleston County voters in November 2004 in order to fund
the construction, paving and resurfacing of roads, and to improve drainage
problems that exist throughout Charleston County, as well as for green space
preservation and mass transportation.

on this meeting, contact Margaret Rush at Charleston County RoadWise, (843)
