County Prepares to
Implement Nov. '06 Bond Referendum Transportation "Half-Cent" Sales Tax
Projects
The passage of
Charleston County's $205 million bond referendum in November 2006 has
launched the beginning of pre-construction activities for projects
funded by the Transportation "Half-Cent" Sales Tax. The referendum has
also resulted in a $95 million bond for greenbelt projects.
As pre-construction
activities begin, the first step is to alert the public that government
personnel may need to go on or near private property that border future
projects to gather various pre-construction data. Public notification of
these activities is required under the "Amended South Carolina Eminent
Domain Procedure Act, Section 28-2-70 C, Code of Laws of, 1976 South
Carolina."
"Government personnel,
with official identification, from Charleston County, the South Carolina
Department of Transportation and representatives from Charleston County
RoadWise will be working in project areas over the next 24 to 36
months," said Dan Moses, Charleston County RoadWise's Pre-Construction
Manager.
Specific data
collection activities will include subsurface exploration, such as soil
or asphalt sampling, and environmental research involving wetlands and
historic places.
