Citizens Asked to Comment
on Alternatives for Two Major Transportation "Half-Cent" Sales Tax Projects
Initial
Bond Projects: Maybank Highway/Folly Road meeting on March 15 and
U.S.17/S.C. 61 meeting on March 22
Charleston County RoadWise
will hold public meetings on two major Transportation "Half-Cent" Sales Tax
improvements projects:
·
Maybank
Highway/Folly Road intersection improvements (7 to 9 p.m. at Harbor View
Elementary School cafeteria, 1576 Harbor View Road, Charleston, South
Carolina 29412)
·
U.S.
17/S.C.61 improvements (7 to 9 p.m. at St. Andrews Elementary School
cafeteria, 30 Chadwick Drive, Charleston, South Carolina 29407)
The purpose of each
meeting is to share design information with the public and to receive
additional comments on proposed improvement plans.
The March 15 meeting will
be the second public meeting for Maybank Highway/Folly Road intersection
improvements. The first public meeting for these intersection improvements
was held on May 25, 2006.
The March 22 meeting will
be the third public meeting for U.S. 17/S.C. 61 improvements. The first two
public meetings for these improvements were held on July 27 and Nov. 16 of
2006. The meetings provided the public with options for the improvements,
and resulted in comments such as a preference for the alternative that best
addresses neighborhood issues concerning cut-through traffic, traffic
congestion, and pedestrian and bicycle traffic safety.
During the upcoming March
15 and 22 meetings, residents will be presented, and asked to review,
alternative drawings that are based on their earlier input.
The various designs
were also based on data that was gathered and studied by the design firms.
These and future meetings
are considered a part of the pre-construction phase of the Initial Bond
Projects, which are funded by the Transportation Sales Tax.
The next Initial Bond
Project meetings involving the public will be:
Palmetto
Commerce Parkway (the second public meeting on Phase II)
Glenn
McConnell/Bees Ferry Intersection (the first public meeting)
U.S. 17/Johnnie Dodds
Boulevard (the first public meeting)
Harbor View Road (the
third public meeting)
The time and date of these
upcoming meetings will be announced to the public in advance.
Gathering public input is
an essential role of Charleston County RoadWise, Charleston County
Government's management program for the construction of road, highway,
resurfacing and drainage projects that are being funded by the
Transportation Sales Tax.
