Public
Involvement Planned for Two Major Transportation “Half-Cent”
Sales Tax Projects
Initial Bond Projects: Harbor View Road public hearing July 17
on James Island, and Johnnie Dodds Boulevard public information
meeting July 19 in Mt. Pleasant
Charleston
County RoadWise announces public information and input
opportunities for two major Transportation “Half-Cent” Sales Tax
road improvement projects:
-
A public hearing for Harbor View Road improvements will be held
on Tuesday, July 17, from 7-9 p.m. in the Harbor View Elementary
School cafeteria (1576 Harbor View Road; Town of James Island,
SC 29412)
-
A public information meeting for Johnnie Dodds Boulevard
improvements will be held on Thursday, July 19, from 7-9 p.m. in
the Town of Mount Pleasant Municipal Complex gymnasium (100 Ann
Edwards Lane; Mount Pleasant, SC 29464)
The purpose of
the Harbor View Road and Johnnie Dodds Boulevard meetings is to
share design information with the public and to receive comments
from residents on proposed improvement plans.
The July 17
hearing will be the third public hearing for Harbor View Road
improvements. The other hearings for these improvements were
held on June 29 and Sept. 28, 2006.
The July 19
public information meeting is the first public meeting for
Johnnie Dodds Boulevard improvements. However, this project was
discussed during several earlier Mount Pleasant Town Council
meetings. Additional meetings will be held on the Johnnie Dodds
Boulevard project later this year.
Gathering
public input is an essential role of the Charleston County
RoadWise Program. Public information meetings and hearings are
critical components of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
process. The NEPA assessment involves the public where
environmental impact is a consideration.
In addition to
the two planned meetings this month, RoadWise will hold a public
information meeting for the Bees Ferry Road Intersection
improvement bond project. The time and date for this meeting
will be announced to the public in advance, as soon as the
details are determined.
