Public Asked to Comment on Johns Island Traffic Study Area
Oct. 9 meeting aims to update a 2001 study with
current views from the public.public.
Charleston County RoadWise is holding a public meeting to gather
input so that a May 2001 study concerning traffic on Johns
Island can be updated with current ideas and comments.
To
gather this input, a meeting will be held by Charleston County
RoadWise on Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 6-8 p.m. in the St. Johns High
School Auditorium (1518 Main Road, Johns Island, SC 29455).
In
2001, Charleston County Council authorized a study, called the
Cross Island Parkway Study, to gather public input on ways to
relieve traffic concerns on Johns Island. The area that was
studied is bounded by Maybank Highway, Bohicket Road and River
Road.
As
part of the study, a public meeting was held in March of 2001 to
gather input on various traffic solutions, such as road widening
and new alignments. This and other information led to a study
published in May of 2001.
Due to changes in development, population, land use and traffic
volume since 2001, there is a need to update the study and
gather current public input and views.
Charleston County Council authorized the update to the Cross
Island Parkway Study, which will be funded by the Transportation
“Half-Cent” Sales Tax.
The public meeting on Oct. 9 will focus on gathering information
concerning traffic flow and safety. During the meeting, project
staff will present an overview of the 2001 study and give
citizens an opportunity to ask questions and give comments.
