Construction Begins on SC 61/Tobias Gadson Blvd. Intersection Improvements
Overnight lane closures to
begin on Sunday, May 16
Construction will begin on Sunday, May 16, for improvements to the intersection
of SC 61 and Tobias Gadson Blvd. in West Ashley.
The
improvements include adding a new right turn lane from eastbound SC 61 (heading
toward Charleston) to Tobias Gadson Blvd. and are expected to be completed by
July 2010.
“Adding a
new right turn lane will improve safety by relieving traffic congestion along SC
61 during peak travel times,” said Steve Thigpen,
Charleston County’s
Transportation Development Chief Program Engineer.
Temporary lane closures will occur overnight,
between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. from May 16 – July 16, 2010, to reduce impacts on
traffic.
At no point will the entire roadway be blocked to
traffic.
The public is asked to take notice of traffic
control signs and message board information. All road work is dependent on the
weather.
The
intersection project is funded by the
Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax and managed by the Charleston
County
RoadWise Program. County Council approved the project as a part of its 2007
Transportation Sales Tax annual allocations for intersection improvement
projects.
Charleston
County RoadWise is the name of
Charleston County Government’s management program for the construction of
roads, highways, resurfacing, paving and drainage projects that are funded by
the Transportation Sales Tax.

official Web site at
