Traffic Alert:
Construction Begins on
US 17/Old Jacksonboro Road Intersection Improvements
Charleston
County will oversee project funded by the Transportation Sales Tax
Charleston County Government announces that construction will beginning next
week on the intersection of US 17 and Old Jacksonboro Road in the town of
Ravenel and is expected to be completed by early August 2010.
The
project is funded by the
Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax and managed by the Charleston
County RoadWise Program. The US 17/Old Jacksonboro Road Intersection project was
requested by the
town of Ravenel, and
Charleston County Council approved the project as part of the
2007 Intersection Improvements category of the Transportation Sales Tax
Program.
The
project description is as follows:

Old Jacksonboro
Road will be realigned to create a T-shaped intersection with US 17 for improved
sight distance and safety.

The construction
of dedicated right-turn and left-turn lanes from Old Jacksonboro Road into the
new E.B. Ellington Elementary School.

The construction
of dedicated right-turn and left- turn lanes from US 17 onto Old Jacksonboro
Road.
Immediate construction efforts that may impact traffic are:

Effective June
14, 2010, the intersection of US 17 and Old Jacksonboro Road will be closed to
traffic and a detour will be established in order to expedite the work on
the intersection.

Vehicles will not
be able to turn onto Old Jacksonboro Road from US 17.
-
A detour will be
established that will take vehicles down Landover Road to Old Jacksonboro Road.
Landover Road is located to the west (toward the Town of Ravenel) from the
closed intersection.

Local traffic
will access Old Jacksonboro from the intersection with Landover Road.
All
motorists traveling through the project area are asked to be aware of equipment
and crews during construction, to take notice of traffic control signs and to
note that all road work is dependent on the weather.
As work arises on the project
that could disrupt traffic, notifications will be announced through news
releases issued to local media and posted on both the
Charleston County Government and
Charleston County RoadWise Web sites.
Charleston
County RoadWise is the name of
Charleston County Government’s management program for the construction of
roads, highways, resurfacing, paving and drainage projects that are funded by
the Transportation Sales Tax.
