Traffic Alert:
Temporary Lane Closures for Bee Street and Courtenay Drive Improvement Project
Charleston County Government announces new traffic alerts for the
Bee Street and Courtenay Drive Improvement Project.
Bravo Street:
-
On June 12 and 13, road crews will be performing
utility relocations along Bravo Street between Bee Street and Ralph Johnson
Drive.
-
At no point will Bravo Street be blocked to
traffic.
Courtenay Drive:
-
On
Monday, June 14, road work will begin on Courtenay Drive between Cannon
Street and Bee Street.
-
One
lane will remain open in each direction to minimize the impact on traffic.
-
The
work will occur overnight between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m. on different weekday and
weekend schedules as restricted by the S.C. Department of Transportation.
For the past few weeks,
improvements to the Bee Street and Courtenay Drive Area have focused on utility
relocations and setting up traffic patterns that fit into construction
activities.
All
motorists traveling through the project area are asked to be aware of equipment
and crews during construction, take notice of traffic control signs, be prepared
for delays and take alternate routes if possible. All road work is dependent on
the weather.
Any other road work on the
project that could disrupt traffic will be announced through news releases
issued to local media and posted on both the
Charleston County Government and
Charleston County RoadWise Web sites.
When
completed, the Bee Street and Courtenay Drive Area improvements will include:
-
The
conversion of Courtenay Drive from Spring Street to Cannon Street from
two-way traffic to one-way southbound traffic.
-
The
widening of Courtenay Drive between Cannon Street and Ralph Johnson
Boulevard to accommodate an additional lane in each direction and
improvements at its intersection with Bee Street.
-
The
complete demolition, reconstruction, and widening of Bee Street from
Courtenay Drive to Lockwood Boulevard to improve drainage and reduce roadway
settlement.
-
The
relocation of 1,200 feet of 12-inch water line along Bee Street from
Courtenay Drive to Lockwood Boulevard.
-
Improvements to the roadway drainage system on Courtenay Drive and Bee
Street to complement the city of Charleston’s future Spring/Fishbourne
Drainage Improvement project.
-
Upgraded traffic signals will be installed at the intersections of Courtenay
Drive at Cannon Street and Courtenay Drive at Bee Street. The upgraded
traffic signals will include pedestrian hand/man signal heads and improved
cross walks.
The
project, which is expected to be completed in less than a year, is funded by the
Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax and managed by the Charleston
County RoadWise Program.
Charleston
County RoadWise is the name of
Charleston County Government’s management program for the construction of
roads, highways, resurfacing, paving and drainage projects that are funded by
the Transportation Sales Tax.
