Traffic Alert:  Temporary Lane Closure for Bee Street and Courtenay Drive Improvement Project

Charleston County Government announces the following traffic alerts for the Bee Street and Courtenay Drive Improvement Project:

Courtenay Drive

August 15-19:

  • A lane closure will occur on Courtenay Drive between Cannon Street and Ralph Johnson Drive.

  • Flagmen will be on site directing traffic because two-way directional traffic will not be maintained.

  • The work will occur at night between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Previously announced and ongoing Bee Street road work:

  • Bee Street will be closed in both directions between Courtenay Drive and Bravo Street.

Main entrance closed to MUSC parking garage:

  • The work on Bee Street will require the closure of the main entrance of the MUSC parking garage located at the corner of Bee Street and Courtenay Drive.

  • Access to the garage will be available through the rear entrance across from Bravo Street as indicated by detour signs.

  • The detour will route motorists from Courtenay Drive along Ralph H. Johnson Drive to Bravo Street. Motorists will then cross Bee Street and go in the rear entrance of the garage.

The public is asked to take notice of traffic control signs and message board information. All road work is dependent on the weather.

Every effort is being made to schedule necessary lane closures for the project during off- peak, nighttime and weekend hours when possible.

The project, which is expected to be completed in less than a year, is funded by the Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax and managed by the Charleston County RoadWise Program. Charleston County RoadWise is the name of Charleston County Government’s management program for the construction of roads, highways, resurfacing, paving and drainage projects that are funded by the Transportation Sales Tax.
