Traffic Alert:
Temporary Lane Closures/Shifts this Weekend for Bee Street and Courtenay Drive
Improvement Project
Charleston County Government announced traffic alerts last week for the
weekend of August 21, but the work was postponed and has been rescheduled for
this weekend.
The following traffic alerts
are for the
Bee Street and Courtenay Drive Improvement Project:
Courtenay Drive
Lane
Closures August 28 and 29:
-
On
Saturday, Aug. 28, and Sunday, Aug. 29, lane closures will occur for utility
work on Courtenay Drive.

The
work will occur during the day between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
-
The
through lane on Courtenay Drive for northbound traffic coming from Calhoun
Street to U.S. 17 will be closed and detoured to U.S. 17 via President
Street.

The
southbound traffic coming from U.S. 17 on Courtenay Drive to Bee Street will
be shifted to allow the utility work to be performed.

Detour signs will be installed to direct motorists to their final
destination.
Previously announced and ongoing Courtenay Drive road work:

Road work will occur along
Courtenay Drive from Cannon Street to Ralph H. Johnson Drive.

Any temporary lane closures will occur overnight between 8 p.m. and 9 a.m.,
on different weekday and weekend schedules as restricted by the S.C.
Department of Transportation, unless otherwise announced.
Bee Street
Previously announced and ongoing Bee Street road work:
Through
August 28:
-
Lane closures began week of June 28, 2010 on Bee
Street from Cherry Street to Lockwood Boulevard.

The projected re-opening date is August 30, 2010.
However, there will be an open lane, in both directions for travelers.

There will also be no on-street parking during
this time.
Through
September 30:
-
Lane shifts will occur on Courtenay Drive from
Cannon Street to Ralph Johnson Drive due to day and night work. However, one
lane will remain open at all times in each direction

The sidewalk in front of MUSC’s Wellness Center
and Harper Student Center from Bee Street to Ralph Johnson Drive is closed.
Pedestrians are being directed to the east side of Courtenay Drive where
they can access these facilities.

The MUSC Parking Garage Main Entrance is
Temporarily Closed
-
Bee Street work has resulted in temporarily
closing the main MUSC garage entrance at Bee Street and Courtenay Drive.

Access to the garage will be available
through the rear entrance across from Bravo Street as indicated by detour
signs.

The detour will route motorists to the rear entrance of
the garage by way of Courtenay Drive to Ralph H. Johnson Drive to Bravo
Street and across Bee Street.
The public
is asked to take notice of traffic control signs and message board information.
All road work is dependent on the weather.
Every effort is being made to
schedule necessary lane closures for the project during off- peak, nighttime and
weekend hours when possible.
The
project, which is expected to be completed in less than a year, is funded by the
Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax and managed by the Charleston
County RoadWise Program. Charleston County RoadWise is the name of
Charleston County Government’s management program for the construction of
roads, highways, resurfacing, paving and drainage projects that are funded by
the Transportation Sales Tax.
