Traffic Alert:
Johnnie
Dodds Boulevard Nighttime Detour Dec. 5 and 6
Charleston County Government announces a traffic detour as part of the
Johnnie Dodds Boulevard Improvements Project in Mount Pleasant:
-
The detour will take place at night on Monday, Dec. 5, and Tuesday, Dec. 6
from 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.
-
Drivers will not be able to cross Johnnie Dodds Boulevard at the
Bowman Road intersection, but will be detoured around the intersection.
-
The purpose of the detour is to allow crews to put the beams in place that
will support the Bowman Road overpass, which is currently under
construction.
-
Barricades
and signs will be used to direct drivers through the detour.
-
Drivers choosing to use Johnnie Dodds Boulevard on the evenings of Dec. 5
and 6 are encouraged to drive with extra caution.
-
If the weather is poor, the work will continue on the next
weather-permitting night.
Drivers traveling through
the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews
working in the area at all times. Alternative routes are recommended if
possible. The public is also asked to notice traffic control signs, reductions
in speed limit and message board information, and to note that all road work is
dependent on the weather.
The goal of the project, which is expected to be completed in the spring of
2013, is to improve the traffic flow in and out of Mount Pleasant, especially
before and after school and work hours. The project is funded by the
Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax
and managed by
Charleston County Government’s
RoadWise Program, in close coordination with the
Town of Mount Pleasant
and the
S.C. Department of Transportation.
The public can get up-to-date project information, including construction status
and traffic alerts, online at
