Traffic Alert:
Johnnie
Dodds Boulevard Detour Rescheduled to Monday
Charleston County Government announces that the traffic detour for the
Johnnie Dodds Boulevard Improvements Project
in Mount Pleasant is being rescheduled for Monday, Dec. 12 due to poor
weather the past few nights. Updated details for this work are:
-
The detour will occur on Monday, Dec. 12 from 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.
-
Drivers will not be able to cross Johnnie Dodds
Boulevard at the Bowman Road intersection, but will be detoured around the
intersection.
-
The purpose of the detour is for safety reasons, so crews can prepare the
area for future construction on the Bowman Road overpass.
-
Barricades
and signs will be used to direct drivers through the detour.
-
Drivers choosing to use Johnnie Dodds Boulevard on the evening of Dec. 12
are encouraged to drive with extra caution.
-
If the weather is poor, the work will continue on the next
weather-permitting night.
Drivers traveling through
the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews
working in the area at all times. Alternative routes are recommended if
possible. The public is also asked to notice traffic control signs, reductions
in speed limit and message board information, and to note that all road work is
dependent on the weather.
The goal of the project, which is expected to be completed in the spring of
2013, is to improve the traffic flow in and out of Mount Pleasant, especially
before and after school and work hours. The project is funded by the
Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax
Charleston County Government’s
RoadWise Program, in close coordination with the
Town of Mount Pleasant
and the
S.C. Department of Transportation.
