Traffic Alert:
Nighttime Lane Closures on Houston Northcutt Blvd. as part of Johnnie Dodds
Blvd. Project
Lane closure from 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Jan. 22 - Feb. 20
Charleston County Government announces the following lane closure as part of
continuing road work on the
Johnnie Dodds Boulevard Improvements Project
in Mount Pleasant:
-
The lane
closure will occur from 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. from Sunday, Jan. 22 through Monday,
Feb. 20
-
The section of
Houston Northcutt Boulevard between Johnnie Dodds Boulevard and Mount
Pleasant Town Hall will be reduced from two lanes to one lane as needed for
the work.
-
The work is
being conducted at night in an effort to reduce impact on drivers.
-
If the
weather is poor any day during Jan. 22 – Feb. 20, the closure will continue
until the work is completed.
-
The speed
limit on Johnnie Dodds Boulevard has been reduced from 45 to 35 mph in the
construction zone when crews are working. Temporary signs will alert the
public of the speed limit reduction.
Drivers traveling through
the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews
working in the area at all times. Alternative routes are recommended if
possible. The public is also asked to notice traffic control signs, reductions
in speed limit and message board information, and to note that all road work is
dependent on the weather.
The goal of the project, which is expected to be completed in the spring of
2013, is to improve the traffic flow in and out of Mount Pleasant, especially
before and after school and work hours. The project is funded by
Charleston County’s Transportation Sales Tax Program
in close coordination with the
Town of Mount Pleasant
and the
S.C. Department of Transportation.
The public can get up-to-date project information including construction status,
traffic alerts and pictures online at
