Traffic Alert:
Nighttime Lane Closures for Bees Ferry Road
Widening Project March 25-29
Charleston County Government announces the following traffic alert regarding
nighttime lane closures for the
Bees Ferry Road Widening Project in West Ashley:
-
Drivers should expect nighttime lane closures on Bees Ferry Road between
8 p.m. and 5 a.m. from Sunday, March 25, through Thursday, March 29.
-
Workers with flags will direct traffic through the closures.
-
The closures are necessary to relocate water and sewer lines on Bees
Ferry Road as part of the project.
-
The closures will occur at the following locations, but only one portion
will be closed at a time:
-
Left Lane of Bees Ferry Road heading from U.S. 17 toward S.C. 61 at
Bear Swamp Road.
-
Right Lane of Bees Ferry Road heading from U.S. 17 toward S.C. 61 at
Main Road.
-
Right Lane of Bees Ferry Road heading from U.S. 17 toward S.C. 61 at
Bluewater Way.
-
Drivers
will still have access to/from Bear Swamp Road, Main Road and Bluewater
Way during the closures.
-
All road
work is dependent on weather. If the weather is poor March 25-29, work
will continue on the next weather-permitting night (other than a Friday
or Saturday).
Drivers traveling through
the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews
working in the area at all times. The public is also asked to notice traffic
control signs, reductions in speed limit and message board information.
The goal of the project, which is expected to be completed April 2014, is to
make improvements to the entire 4.5 mile length of Bees Ferry Road from Savannah
Highway (U.S. 17) to Ashley River Road (S.C. 61). The project was requested by
the
City of Charleston and was funded by the
Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax Program. Partial funding for the
project was approved by voters in the
second Transportation Sales Tax bond referendum.
The public can
get more information and see photos of the construction process online at
http://www.ccroadwise.org/projects/bees_ferry_road/index.php.
